Everyone is buzzing about where Amazon will locate HQ2, it’s new, second campus outside of Seattle. Whichever city wins the bid is promised a huge influx of Amazon employees so it had better have the infrastructure to accommodate the growth.
A RealPage study shows that DC’s apartment market is in third place with 30,453 vacant apartments, 18,958 apartments set to deliver, and an average rent for these units of $1,691 per month. While District rents are high compared to the rest of the country, they are quite reasonable in comparison to Seattle. Atlanta and Dallas, however, beat out DC with similar vacancies and lower rents at around $1,100 per month.
The decision will ultimately come down to a combination of factors. Do you think an Amazon campus in DC would be a welcome addition or more trouble than it’s worth?
